At the intersection of medicine, innovation and talent – where the magic happens

Without the people to bring a vision to life, innovation stalls and technology advances fall short.  Ted Coss from BEC Search discusses what he sees in common among people that succeed in the medical device and pharmaceutical sales arena.

I’m lucky to do what I do.  Each day, I help people find meaningful roles that allow them to put their talents to work at organizations that rely upon their skills to be successful.  When it “clicks,” and both the candidate and company go on to do great things together, it is extremely gratifying.

The industry in which my team and I work – healthcare, and, more specifically, medical device and pharma – takes this work to a whole other level.  Over the years, we’ve identified the right people to help organizations launch life-saving technologies and innovations that revolutionized treatments… enhancing, and sometimes even saving, patient lives.

Through this experience, I’ve become increasingly fascinated with medicine and technology. Whether it’s the power of neuromodulation to reduce pain or introducing a new CNS drug to eliminate seizures, I can’t get enough and can’t wait to see what is next.

What I’ve found in common among the people that succeed in healthcare is a deep empathy and drive to make a difference in people’s lives.  You may be marketing a new device or drug, but it’s really about hope for the patient and his or her loved ones.  You are also offering possibility to the physician who has exhausted every other treatment and is counting on this one to save a life.

Without the people to bring the vision to life, innovation stalls and technology advances fall short.  I’ve seen it happen before – without the right team and culture rowing in the same direction, companies struggle and the results can be disastrous.

Making an upfront investment of time and resources in finding high-impact talent is imperative. Adding the right talent early on will infuse your organization with the new energy, credibility, and passion required to become competitive in the marketplace. Retaining that talent allows for much-needed continuity as the organization changes and evolves over time.

As specialists in healthcare for decades, we know where the top talent is—and how to introduce you to them. We specialize in helping fast-moving organizations like yours discover, build and grow your most precious resource – people.

I couldn’t have imagined when I started in the recruiting field some 30 years ago that I’d have the opportunity to play in this arena – at the intersection of medicine, technology, and talent.

This is the joy of what I do, and what my team does.  We find the people who make the magic happen.
